The 2011 version of the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle volleyball team got in some extra practice time Tuesday and Wednesday as they took part in the 4th annual Summer Bash Volleyball Camp at Flomaton.
W.S. Neal played in eight games over the span of two days—four games on Tuesday and four games Wednesday— and compiled an overall record of 3-5.
W.S. Neal went 2-2 Tuesday and 1-3 on Wednesday.
The Lady Eagles began play Tuesday at 9 a.m. against Northview and won 2-1. At 10 a.m., W.S. Neal lost to Baldwin County 2-0 and fell to Flomaton at noon by a score of 2-0.
In their final game Tuesday at 3 p.m., the Lady Eagles got back in the win column as they defeated Foley 2-0.
Wednesday, the Lady Eagles played at 9 a.m. and lost to Jay 2-1 after winning the first set. At 11 a.m., W.S. Neal defeated Saraland 2-0 for their lone win of the day. At 1 p.m., W.S. Neal lost to Cottage Hill 2-0 and followed that loss with a 2-0 loss to Mobile Christian at 3 p.m.
First-year Lady Eagle head coach Jeff Haney said the tournament at Flomaton was good experience for his team.
“We got to play a lot of games and a lot of people,” Haney said. “That is what it is all about. It gives people who have not picked up a volleyball in a while to get some valuable practice time. It allows you to get a lot of work in and work on the things that you need to work on to get ready for the season. We did some things right and some wrong, but this was practice and it’s only the beginning.”
In Tuesday’s games, W.S. Neal defeated Northview 25-6 in game one, lost game two, 25-14, before winning the third and deciding game 15-10 to start the day with a win.
Against Baldwin County in game two, W.S. Neal lost 25-12 and 25-17. In game three against host Flomaton, the Lady Eagles lost 26-24 and 25-21.
In their fourth and final game of the day Tuesday in Flomaton, the Lady Eagles defeated Foley 25-13 and 25-16 to end the day with an even record.
No stats, other than scores from Tuesday’s games were available.
In Wednesday’s games, W.S. Neal started off with a 2-1 loss to Jay. W.S. Neal won game one 28-26 but lost game two 25-23 and set three 15-7.
Against Saraland in game two of the day, W.S. Neal won 25-18 and 25-18.
In their third game, W.S. Neal lost to Cottage Hill 25-8 and 25-17 to drop to 1-2.
In their fourth and final game of the day Wednesday, W.S. Neal lost to Mobile Christian 25-22 and 25-16.
W.S. Neal will begin their 2011 regular season Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Flomaton.

Jay 2, W.S. Neal 1
After winning set one, the Lady Eagles blew a late lead in set two and lost set three to fall to Jay 2-1.
In set one against the Lady Royals, Gracee Dixon led with five service points and one ace and Paige Grantham had four service points.
Ashlyn Lambeth had two points along with Lauren Boatwright and Kaitlin Hadaway had one. Kendall Clayton had three points and Stephanie Lambert had one kill.
In set two, W.S. Neal led 23-18 and was two points away from taking the win before Jay outscored the Lady Eagles 7-0 down the stretch to win by two.
Lambeth had four service points in the loss and Grantham had two and a kill. Lambert had a kill and Clayton had three service points. Boatwright had one and Hadaway had two and a kill.
In the third and deciding game, Jay used an early 8-3 lead to win the game 15-7.
W.S. Neal had no service points in the loss.

W.S. Neal 2, Saraland 0
Against Saraland, W.S. Neal won 2-0.
In the 25-18 game one win, Dixon had four service points, one ace and kill and Grantham had four service points and an ace.
Lambeth had a kill and Boatwright had four service points and one kill.
Clayton had three service points and Hadaway had one.
In game two, W.S. Neal won 25-18 and Lambeth led with four service points. Hadaway had three and one ace and Boatwright had two. Clayton had an ace and Grantham and one service point followed by Dixon who had two kills in the win.

Cottage Hill 2, W.S. Neal 0
Going up against the defending 2A state champion, Cottage Hill cruised to a 25-8 win over W.S. Neal in game one.
Clayton had the lone two service points for W.S. Neal with one being an ace.
In game two, Dixon had one point, Grantham had four points with two aces and one kill and Lambeth had one point. Boatwright had an ace and Hadaway had two points.
W.S. Neal led early in the game 7-3, 9-4, and 10-5 before Cottage Hill tied the game at 16-16 and would outscore the Lady Eagles 9-2 the remainder of the game.

Mobile Christian 2, W.S. Neal 0
In a close first game with Mobile Christian, the Lady Eagles lost by three, 25-22.
Dixon had three service points and one ace and Lambeth had two. Clayton had three points with one ace and Boatwright had two kills. Hadaway had two points with one being an ace and Lambert had two kills in the loss.
In game two, W.S. Neal lost 25-16.
Dixon had two points, Grantham had one, Lambeth had three, Clayton had one and Hadaway had two kills.
