An Atmore man is behind bars after officers with two police departments investigated a suspicious vehicle in Flomaton.
Dedrick Kjell Neal was arrested just after 4 p.m. Thursday and charged with first-degree possession of marijuana.
Sgt. Bryan Davis with the Brewton Narcotics Division said agents with his department and officers with the Flomaton Police Depart-ment came in contact with Neal in response to a suspicious vehicle in Flomaton.
“We came in contact with the vehicle on Railroad Street,” Davis said. “Flomaton Police Chief Geoff McGraw and other officers approached the vehicle and it began to pull away.”
Davis said officers attempted to make contact with the occupants of the vehicle to investigate suspicious behavior.
“Officers were able to identify the driver as being Neal,” Davis said “When the officers approached the vehicle they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.”
As officers observed Neal, they noticed marijuana in his lap, Davis said.
Neal was searched at the time of the contact by officers and was found to be in possession of approximately one ounce of marijuana.
Neal was placed under arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center by Flomaton Sgt. Daniel Thompson where he was booked on the charges against him.
Bond information for Neal was un available as of press time.
