Softball teams to play Thursday

Two teams will represent the Brewton area this year at the Cal Ripken softball 12- and under World Series in Andalusia.
Games are set to begin Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Andalusia Sports Complex.
Brewton and East Brewton’s softball teams will represent the area in the 12-team tournament.
Brewton and East Brewton will be in the American Division of pool play with four other teams will six other teams will make up the National Division.
In the American Division pool will be New England, Southeast, Middle Atlantic, Pacific Southwest, Invitational champion Brewton and South Alabama state champion East Brewton.
In the National Division will be Ohio Valley, Southwest, Midwest Plains, Pacific Northwest, North Alabama state champion Alex City and host Andalusia.
Pool play games will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday with the double elimination bracket part of the tournament starting Sunday. The double elimination bracket will continue Monday and Tuesday.
The top three teams from each pool will play in the double elimination bracket the first place teams have first round byes.
In pool play, Brewton will begin their tournament Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7:30 p.m. against Pacific Southwest while East Brewton will play Middle Atlantic at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 5, Brewton will play Middle Atlantic at 8:30 a.m. followed by East Brewton and Southeast at 8:30 a.m.
Later in the day, Brewton will take on New England at 5:30 p.m. while East Brewton will play Pacific Southwest at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 6, Brewton and East Brewton will tangle with each other at 10:30 a.m. while Brewton will later take on Southeast at 7:30 p.m. and East Brewton will play New England at 7:30 p.m.
A banquet of champions will be held Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Kiwanis Community Center at 11:30 a.m.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at the Andalusia Sports Complex.
East Brewton is the South Alabama state champion.
Brewton is the 2011 district champion.
