An Atmore man was arrested Monday evening by members of the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force Unit and officers with the Atmore Police Department.

Richard Jacob Akers, 30, of 215 5th Ave., was arrested and charged with first-degree manufacture of a controlled substance, manufacture/sale/transfer of precursor chemicals, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

The arrest came after agents received a tip that methamphetamine was being manufactured at the 5th Avenue address.

As agents arrived on the scene, the owner of the home gave permission to have officers enter and search the home. During their search officers located a methamphetamine lab in the laundry room area of the home. The methamphetamines seized at the home have an estimated street value of $1,200, Atmore Police officials said. All materials found in the area were taken into evidence by officers.

Akers was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton where he was booked on the charges against him.

Akers remains behind bars in lieu of a $250,000 bond set in the case.
