Three Brewton residents face a variety of drug and other charges after arrests were made by the Brewton Police Department and other agencies this week.
Kevin Govan of Brewton was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after Brewton Police Officer Nicholas Stanley initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle along U.S. 31 South.
Lt. Bryan Davis, supervisor with the Brewton Narcotics Division, said Govan was a passenger in the vehicle stopped in the case.
“Officer Stanley, assisted by Cpl. Kevin Durden, found Govan in the rear seat of the vehicle at the time of the stop,” Davis said. “Govan was found to be I possession of approximately one-half of a pound of marijuana and a handgun.”
Following the arrest by officers, the case was turned over to the Brewton Narcotics Division who then obtained a search warrant for Govan’s resident.
“The Brewton Special Response Team executed the search warrant at the West Jackson Street residence,” Davis said. “This residence is located next door to the Brewton Public Library and the Brewton Elementary School.”
Davis said during the search of Govan’s home officers located a handgun, marijuana and evidence of distribution of marijuana.
Evidence found in the traffic stop and at Govan’s home has resulted in a number of charges against him. Charges stemming from the traffic stop include first-degree possession of marijuana, a certain person forbidden to possess a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges stemming from the residence search include two counts of first-degree possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia, certain person forbidden to possess a firearm and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance-marijuana.
Govan was being held on $100,000 bond Friday.
A team effort of the Brewton and Flomaton Police Departments Tuesday night has put two Flomaton residents behind bars on a variety of drug charges.
Officers from each department executed a search warrant in the 800 block of M.L. King Drive in Flomaton around 11 p.m. Tuesday night, Davis said.
Anthony Williams, 44, and Daisy Amanda Watson, 26, were arrested at the Williams home after evidence in an investigation by the Flomaton Police Department.
”The investigation was in connection with the suspected distribution of illegal narcotics at that location,” Davis said. “Williams was also being investigated for suspicion of being in possession of counterfeit currency.”
Davis said officers found a small amount of cocaine, several drug paraphernalia items and several counterfeit notes.
Williams was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance-cocaine; possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Watson was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance-cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and eight counts of second-degree possession of forged instruments.
Watson was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance – cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Watson and Williams were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center by Flomaton Police Department where they were booked on the charges against them. Williams was being held on a $100,000 bond while Watson was held on a $5,000 bond. Neither had been released on bond Friday.
