With high school and college football season just weeks away, staff at Covenant Hospice have chosen next weekend for their annual Football Fever fundraiser.
Jackie Crews, development manager for Covenant Hospice, said the 2011 event will incorporate more team spirit than the previous fundraiser.
“You may remember our Bama Fever fundraiser last year,” Crews said. “We sold 1,000 tickets and raised over $4,200 for our patients and their families. We had so much success and response to that event we decided to include a package for Auburn fans as well.”
The Football Fever: Crimson Tide and Tiger Pride event is set for Saturday, Aug. 19 at WOW Cafe and Wingery. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the downtown restaurant.
Crews said the event will feature two prizes including an ultimate Auburn fan package and an ultimate Alabama fan package.
“Due to the success of last year’s event and the response from the community, we wanted to expand the event to include a package for fans of both colleges,” Crews said. “We’re hoping for the same response this year.”
The Auburn package will contain a football autographed by 2010 National Champion Coach Gene Chizik, two tickets to the 2011 Auburn vs. Mississippi State game on Sept. 10, a cooler and two stadium seats.
The Alabama package will contain a football autographed by 2009 National Champion Coach Nick Saban, two tickets to the 2011 Alabama vs. Vanderbilt game on Oct. 8, a cooler and two stadium seats.
The tailgate party will be free and open to the community. Participants do not have to be present to win and those who do attend are encouraged to wear their Alabama or Auburn gear. If there are any unsold tickets, they will be sold at the event. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and can be purchased at Covenant Hospice, Wow Cafe and Wingery, Jus Do, the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Old Cozy Corner Cafe, the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce, the Opp Chamber of Commerce and the Atmore Chamber of Commerce.
For additional information or to purchase tickets, call the Covenant office at 867-6993, or stop by at 1023 Douglas Ave., Suite 204 in Brewton.
“For those who have experienced Covenant’s care, they understand the profound impact it has on a family and what a difference it makes to have that support at such a difficult time,” Crews said. “Fundraisers like Football Fever, will enable us to continue our mission and give the gift of hospice care to all those who need it in our community.”
