The search for a new president at Jefferson Davis College is getting closer to an end with application deadline for the position set for Friday.
Kathleen Hall was named interim president by officials with the Alabama Board of Education following the retirement of Susan McBride in December 2010. Hall, who will not be in the running for the position, said interviews would begin following closing of the application process.
“We haven’t been told anything about the applicants at all,” Hall said earlier this week.
Applications for the position have been accepted for several weeks with a deadline of Aug. 19 for all applicants.
Qualifications for the position, as described in the application announcement, include a minimum of five years senior-level, full-time administrative experience in an applicable institution, government agency or industry is required; a master’s degree from an accredited institution is required; an earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution is preferred; experience and knowledge f the mission and role of public two-year institutions, particularly their role in community economic development and workforce development is required.
Jefferson Davis Community College is a two-year institution with campuses in Brewton and Atmore with the Brewton location being considered the main campus. Instructional sites are also housed at Holman and Fountain Correctional Centers in the Atmore area. The two-year community college serves approximately 1,300 students with a staff of 85 full-time and 65 part-time employees.
Officials with the Alabama State Board of Education’s legal and human resources department could not comment on applications already received for the position this week. However, a list of applicants will be available in the near future as the hiring process for the position continues.
