Already with a 1-0 record in their 2011 season, the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger volleyball team improved to 2-0 in their first home match of the season Monday—a tri-match against Andalusia and Greenville.
T.R. Miller defeated Andalusia 2-1 and Greenville 2-0 to get the wins.
Against Andalusia, T.R. Miller won set one 25-16, lost set two 25-20 before winning set three 15-13.
Against Greenville in their second game of the tri-match, T.R. Miller won 25-6 in set one and 25-13 in set two to improve their overall record to 3-0 this season.
“Against Andalusia, in the first game, we came out more aggressive, I thought,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head volleyball coach Greg White said. “We played aggressive and was able to come out and get the win. In game two, it happens all the time, we came out relaxed and played not to lose instead of playing to win. We had a chance to win, but did not put it away there at the end. We came back in game three and in the two wins we got, we were the more aggressive team. That is why we got the win. It was a big win because we had not beat Andalusia in six or seven years so that was a big win for the program. I am very proud of them. They were an Elite-8 team last year so that makes it a good win as well.”
In the Greenville win, White said he was able to play a lot of people.
“We were able to get in a lot of our younger players,” White said. “We served the ball really well and I thought we hustled and did really well. It is nice to get two wins and we look for the same against Monroe County Tuesday.”
T.R. Miller was set to be back in action Tuesday at home against Monroe County. The game was a scheduled road game, but the Lady Tigers will now travel to Monroe County later in the season.
Thursday, T.R. Miller will play Flomaton at home. Game times will begin at 4 p.m. with the middle school teams followed by the JV teams at 5 p.m. and the varsity teams at 6 p.m.
