In their first games of the season Tuesday in Flomaton, only the W.S. Neal Middle School volleyball team picked up wins.
The Middle School team defeated Flomaton 2-1. W.S. Neal lost game one 25-23 before winning game two 25-19 and game three 15-3 to improve their record to 1-0.
In JV action, W.S. Neal lost 2-1. The JV Lady Eagles lost game one 25-20 before winning game two 25-20 to force a third and deciding game. In game three, W.S. Neal lost 16-14 to fall to 0-1.
In varsity action, W.S. Neal lost 3-1. W.S. Neal won game one 25-19 but lost their next three games—25-23, 25-23, and 25-12—to start the season 0-1.
“Our JV did a good job in their first outing,” W.S. Neal head volleyball coach Jeff Haney said. “Most of the girls were pretty nervous because it was the first game. A few were extremely nervous because it was their first volleyball game ever. The game didn’t go as we’d hoped, but it gave us a great idea of things we can improve on. It will be a big motivator for the players. I was proud of the way everyone played.”
Haney said the varsity Lady Eagles played very well up until the last few minutes.
“It seemed like we ran out of gas, but not in a physical way,” Haney said. “It seemed to be more mental mistakes and not a lack of conditioning. We have improved in many areas since the summer tournament less than a month ago. Our setters (Ashlyn Lambeth and Kaitlin Hadaway) did a fantastic job for us. We controlled the ball well and did the things we wanted to do until that last game. I look forward to the rest of the season because I know these girls are working hard to improve every day.”
W.S. Neal is scheduled to play at Escambia County in Atmore Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in a varsity only game.
W.S. Neal will have their first home game Tuesday, Aug. 30, against T.R. Miller. Games are set to begin at 4 p.m. with middle school, JV and varsity playing.

WSNMS 2, Flomaton 1
W.S. Neal’s Middle School Lady Eagle volleyball team picked up their first win of the season in their first game at Flomaton Tuesday.
In a game one loss, 25-23, Haleigh Dubose and Tiffany Robinson led with three service points. Alyssa English had two points while Madison Winchester, Karissa Johnson and Madisen Bush had one.
In a 25-19 win in game two, Johnson led with six service points and one ace. Robinson had three points while Taylor Burns and Heather Martin had two each. Winchester had one point.
In the deciding third game, W.S. Neal rolled to a 15-3 win over Flomaton to win the match.
Dubose had two points and Johnson had four points and one ace. Robinson had five points and one ace.

Flomaton 2, WSN JV 1
W.S. Neal’s JV started their season with a 2-1 loss to Flomaton Tuesday.
In game one, a 25-20 loss, Christina Robinson led with four points while Cheyenne Jackson had two points. Tiffany Sawyer had two points and two kills while Jasmine Crook and one point and Ashley Fleming had one kill.
In game two, W.S. Neal won 25-20 to force and third game. In the game two win, Sawyer had four points, Tykeria Nolan had three points, one ace and one kill and Crook had two points. Cheyenne Jackson had six points and one ace.
Leading 14-11, Flomaton outscored W.S. Neal 5-2 the remainder of the game to stun the Eagles and get the win.
In the loss, Fleming had one point and Nolan had one kill. Nolan added four service points and one ace in the loss.
Crook had two points along with Robinson and Jackson had one kill.

Flomaton 3, WSN varsity 1
After getting a 25-19 win in game one Tuesday against Flomaton, W.S. Neal suffered three straight losses to Flomaton to lose 3-1 in their first game of the season.
In the 25-19 game one win, Gracee Dixon had five points, two aces and one kill. Stephanie Lambert had three points, one ace and one kill and Lauren Boatwright had three points and one kill.
Kaitlin Hadaway had five points and Ashlyn Lambeth had one kill and one point.
In game two, W.S. Neal lost 25-23. Dixon had one point and Paige Grantham had five points. Lambeth had two points and Lambert had one ace. Boatwright had two points.
In game three, W.S. Neal lost 25-23. Dixon had one point and one kill and Lambert had two kills, two blocks and one ace.
Grantham had four service points and Lambeth had one.
Boatwright had four service points in the loss.
With Flomaton one win away from taking the match, the Hurricanes won game four 25-12.
Dixon had one service point and Grantham had one and one kill.
Lambeth had three service points in the loss.
