Organizers for the 2012 Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society are already at work in the Brewton and East Brewton communities.
Chairwoman for Relay 2011, Sharon Peacock, said the position she has held for the last two years is ready to be filled for the upcoming fundraising year. Other committee member slots are also ready to be filled.
“We are looking for leaders for the 2012 Relay event,” Peacock said. “If anyone is interested in serving on the Relay for Life committee we are open to new ideas. There are a lot of different types of roles and responsibilities that go with our Relay committee group.”
Peacock said a special organizational meeting would be held Sept. 19 for those interested in Relay leadership or to learn more about the event.
“We will have our new American Cancer Society Community Representative with us at our first meeting,” Peacock said. “Katelyn Ellis will be there to answer any questions about committee seats and duties as well as specific information about the upcoming Relay event.”
The purpose of the meeting will be to organize a committee responsible for planning, recruiting teams, acquiring sponsorships and many aspects of organizing the event.
The meeting will be held at noon, Monday, Sept. 19 at Jalisco’s Mexican Restaurant on Douglas Avenue.
