Former Northview High School student Elena Janelle Rendell will find out next week if her request for a lower bond amount will be granted during a hearing in Escambia County Fla.
Rendell, 17, is accused of killing her 14-year-old adoptive sister, Christina Marie Sneary, at the girls’ Ferry Pass home in August. She was charged as an adult with manslaughter with a firearm after telling police she shot her sister in the neck with her father’s 9 mm handgun during an argument over a cell phone.
According to Escambia County Sheriff’s Department reports Rendell initially told deputies responding to the scene she accidentally shot Sneary while firing at a black male who had broken into the home. She later changed her story saying she and her sister were playing with the gun when it accidentally went off before finally admitting to purposefully firing the gun at Sneary.
Rendell’s bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28 in front of Circuit Judge Nickolas Geeker in Pensacola. She is currently being held in the Escambia County Jail on $300,000 bond.
