New semi-pro football team coming to Brewton

Last year the Spartans, this year the Devils: That is the case for a semi-pro football team for the Brewton area in the Premier South Football League (PSFL).
Last year, the Brewton area saw a team named the Escambia Spartans play in the league.
According to Sedrick Samuel, co-owner of the new PSFL team the Alabama Devils, the Spartans team is no more while the Devils are the new team. Samuel says he wants to let the community know that the semi-pro football league is not a joke.
“The Alabama Devils was developed to give athletes an opportunity to better themselves athletically and showcase their skills to the world,” Samuel said. “Many players today, for one reason or another, miss opportunities to advance to the next level. We at Alabama Devils can reopen doors for some and jump start careers to play at a higher level such as: CFL, AFL, UFL or the NFL. Scouts will be at the games. We really need the help from the community meaning fan base, support, donations and sponsorships. This league will bring entertainment to the area during the spring and summertime.”
Samuel said the team is really in need of some sponsors.
“We are 100 percent non-profit meaning anything that is donated is a tax write-off,” Samuel said. “We will be having our first tryout/signups, Sunday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Sportsman Park on MLK Drive in Brewton.”
Samuel said the organization is looking to keep the discipline and structure in the lives of young men through their activity with semi pro football and that every year there are high school student athletes that graduate and don’t go to college or are forced to drop out due to different reasons.
“We are looking to give those men an opportunity to play semi pro football in a well structured league,” he said. “With their skill and determination, combined with our guidance and drive to be successful, amazing results can happen. We are looking to shape the minds of young men and assist them on their road to a career, whether it is on the football field or off. Although we are a platform for these athletes to showcase their ability, it is the players responsibility to take advantage of these services because recruitment, contracts, agents, or any try outs are not guaranteed but the organization will do everything in our power to assist you if some shall arise.”
The Alabama Devils will be a semi-pro football team based out of Brewton that competes in the PSFL. The team will made up of a broad range of experience, from former college player to players who have not played since high school. Games will be played between April and August with home games being played at Conecuh County Junior High in Castleberry.
“We are a local, community based and locally involved organization striving for an outstanding family atmosphere, both at our games and around town,” Samuel said. “As we continue to grow within Brewton, we look forward to working with area schools, charities, and organizations with donation of revenue, volunteering, and awareness. We look forward to seeing fans at our games and in the community.”
Coaches of the team will be Samuel, Willie Campbell, Marty Long, Keith Godbolt and
Chris Peters.
