WSNMS Eagle football team improves to 3-1

The W.S. Neal Middle School Eagle football team ran all over the Straughn Tigers Thursday on the road as they improved to 3-1 with a 44-14 win.
The Eagles racked up 379 yards of offense on the ground and another 43 in the air to total 422 yards of offense while holding Straughn to 130 yards of total offense.
W.S. Neal led 24-0 after the first quarter and 30-0 at the half.
At the end of the third quarter, the Eagles led 36-0. In the fourth, Straughn outscored the Eagles 14-8, but W.S. Neal earned the win by 30 points.
Malcolm Hawthorne got the Eagles on the board first in the first with a 9-yard run and Lane Chavers added the two-point conversion. Hawthorne would later add a 42-yard run in the quarter and Quention Samuel added the conversion to put the Eagles on top 16-0.
Samuel added the final touchdown of the quarter as he scored on a 30-yard run and added the conversion for the 24-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Hawthorne scored his third touchdown on a 45-yard run, but the conversion failed as W.S. Neal led 30-0 at the half.
In the third quarter, Samuel scored on a 70-yard run and the conversion failed to see the Eagles led 36-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Samuel had an 80-yard kickoff return and a two-point conversion.
Hawthorne finished with 182 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns in the win and Samuel had 138 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns along with the kickoff return in the fourth.
Chavers had 27 yards on three carries and Dakota Graves had 25 yards on three carries. DaQuain Kiser added four yards on two carries in the win and TyShawn Davis had one carry for three yards.
In the seventh grade game, W.S. Neal won 8-0.
Kiser had seven carries for 69 yards and Davis had two carries for six yards and one touchdown and a two-point conversion.
LaDre Lawson added 10 yards on two carries in the win.
W.S. Neal will be back in action Thursday on the road against Andalusia—the lone team to beat the Eagles. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The final home game for the Eagles at T.R. Miller (Brewton Middle School) has been changed from Thursday, Oct. 6 to Tuesday, Oct. 4.
W.S. Neal’s varsity game on Thursday Oct. 6 against B.C. Rain changed the date.
