A three-month undercover drug operation has already landed several Brewton residents behind bars, with others expected to be arrested as a result of the operation.
Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin said a bust Monday night put as many as eight suspected drug offenders behind bars.
“We were able to round up eight people Monday night as a result of this operation,” McGougin said. “We are continuing the investigation into the information we gained from the undercover operation and expect to make many more arrests.”
McGougin said arrest reports had not been finalized Tuesday evening as officers were continuing to search for suspects in the cases.
Charges of those already in custody ranged from conspiracy to distribute, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
“We’re talking about marijuana and cocaine,” McGougin said. “This operation is allowing us to get these drugs off our streets and put those responsible behind bars.”
Names and other information concerning those already arrested were not available as of press time because officers were still working the case.
