In the final B-team football game of the season Monday night in East Brewton, the T.R. Miller Tigers held off the W.S. Neal Eagles 28-22.
The win for the Tigers finished their season with a 4-2 record while W.S. Neal ended the season with a 0-4 record.
After a scoreless first quarter for both teams, the Tigers got on the board first in the second quarter when McHenry Coleman scored on a 20-yard run. After a successful two-point conversion, the Tigers led 8-0 with 7:50 left before the half.
The score would be the only score of the first half as the Tigers led 8-0 at the half.
In the second half of play, T.R. Miller went on top of the Eagles 16-0 with 6:12 left in the third quarter when quarterback Kieon Smith found Trae Walked for a 44-yard score.
On the ensuing drive for the Eagles, Zack Haveard used one play to go 70 yards for the Eagles first score of the game to cut the Tiger lead to 16-8 with 5:57 left in the third quarter.
Three plays later for the Tigers, Coleman added his second touchdown of the game as he scored on a 67-yard run with 4:20 left to play to five the Tigers a 22-8 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Michael Williams scored on a 4-yard run with 7:54 left in the game to cut the T.R. Miller lead to 22-14.
The Tigers would add some insurance points with 3:09 left in the game as Smith scored on a 6-yard run to give the Tigers a 28-14 lead.
In the final seconds, the Eagles used a hook-and-ladder play to score with 5.2 seconds left to cut the Tigers lead to 28-22.
Lane Chavers connected to Chase Kaylor for a 4-yard gain before flicking the ball to Quenton Samuel for the final 17 yards for the score.
Both teams finished with exactly 294 yards of offense. The Tigers had 233 yards rushing with 70 coming in the first half and 163 in the second. T.R. Miller had 61 yards passing with 15 in the first half and 46 in the second.
Overall, the Tigers had 85 yards of offense in the first half and 209 in the second.
For W.S. Neal, the Eagles had 263 yards rushing in the game and 31 passing. W.S. Neal had 90 yards rushing in the first half and 173 in the second while having 3 passing yards in the first half and 28 in the second with an overall 93 yards of offense in the first half and 201 in the second.
Coleman led T.R. Miller with 153 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns while Jalen Jones had five yards on three carries. Smith had 71 yards on six carries while Walker had 11 yards on one carry.
Smith was 4-for-7 passing with 61 yards in the game with all passes being to Walker.
For the Eagles, Haveard led with 113 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown while Williams had 30 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. Malcolm Hawthorne added 13 yards on two carries and Samuel had 98 on nine carries and a touchdown.
Williams was 1-for-5 with three yards passing and one interception while Lane Chavers was 2-for-4 with 28 yards.
Hawthorne had one catch for 24 yards while Kaylor had two catches for seven yards.
