The naming of a new president for Jefferson Davis Community College is a little closer — with an announcement expected by week’s end.

The Alabama Board of Education will be in session Thursday when the recommendation for a president at the Brewton college is expected to be made.

A pool of more than 50 applicants was whittled down to five last month with interviews conducted on the JDCC campus in Brewton just three weeks ago. Following the round of interviews by the search committee, three names were presented to chancellor of post-secondary education who conduced the final round of interviews.

The final three candidates interviewed by the chancellor were Dr. Daniel Bain of Arkansas, Dr. Barbara Bebee of Maryland and Dr. Angeline Godwin of Mississippi.

The presidency became an open slot at the college after Dr. Susan McBride retired from the position in December 2010. During the search, Dean of Instruction Kathleen Hall has served as interim-president for the two-year institution.
