WSNMS boys basketball gets second win, girls take second loss

After the first two games of the 2011 season for the W.S. Neal Middle School basketball programs, the girls were 2-0 and the boys were 0-2.
In their most recent games, the girls have fallen to 2-2 while the boys have improved to 2-2 as the Lady Eagles lost to Jay Wednesday at home 14-13 in overtime and the boys won 41-20.
Both teams will be back in action Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Flomaton. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Jay 14, WSNMS Lady Eagles 13 OT
After trailing by two points after three quarters Wednesday at home to Jay 13-11, the Lady Eagles rallied in the fourth to force overtime but lost in the extra period by one point, 14-13.
Jay took an early lead over the Lady Eagles 6-0 in the first quarter before W.S. Neal cut the score to 6-3 after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, Jay increased their lead by two points as they outscored the Lady Eagles 4-2 in the quarter to hold a 10-5 lead at the half.
In the third, W.S. Neal took an 11-10 lead with 2:14 left to play but trailed by two points, 13-11 heading into the fourth after outscoring Jay 6-3 in the quarter.
W.S. Neal kept their rally going in the fourth quarter as they held Jay scoreless while getting two points to tie the game at 13-13 and force overtime.
In overtime, only one point was scored as Jay took the win 14-13.
With 14.3 seconds left in the overtime period, Jay was sent to the free throw line to attempt two free throws. After missing the first one, Jay missed the second shot, but got a third shot as a lane violation was called on W.S. Neal.
Jay connected on the extra shot and held W.S. Neal scoreless to get the one-point win.
For the Lady Eagles in the loss, KeKe Floyd led with seven points and Haleigh Dubose, Dee Dee Lawson and Tiffany Robinson all had two points in the loss.
W.S. Neal was 1-for-4 from the free throw line while Jay was 2-for-6.

WSNMS boys 41, Jay 20
After starting the season 0-2, the W.S. Neal Middle School Eagles picked up their second win in a row Wednesday at home as they defeated Jay by 21 points, 41-20.
The Eagles trailed Jay 7-6 after the first quarter after holding a 6-3 lead with 1:50 left to play in the quarter.
In the second, W.S. Neal held an 11-4 advantage to claim a 17-11 lead at the half. W.S. Neal used an 11-0 run in the quarter to hold a 17-7 lead with 21.6 seconds to go before Jay added the final four points.
In the third, W.S. Neal increased their lead by 11 as they outscored Jay 14-3 in the quarter to hold a 31-14 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, W.S. Neal outscored Jay 10-6 to get the win.
Dalton Shell led W.S. Neal with 14 points and Malcolm Hawthorne added 10. TyShawn Davis had nine points in the win while Traylon Watson had three. Lane Chavers and Kenny Walker chipped in two points each for the Eagles.
