Work is moving along on a home planned for the Thompson family in East Brewton thanks to volunteers working with Habitat for Humanity organizers.

Alecia Glaize, director of HFH, said volunteers have made the late start for the home a success.

is well on the way to having a Home for the Holidays ready for the Thompson
family,” Glaize said. “Thanks to a great volunteer turnout last weekend, the walls are up,
the trusses are set, the roof decking is on, the exterior insulation board up and the hardy plank siding is painted.”

All labor for the building of homes by Habitat is volunteer and Glaize said those who have shown up to work have been a blessing.

“A small crew from New Beginnings has been working at the site this week
to help us make up for lost time,” Glaize said. “We were blessed to have several groups
work with us this past weekend.”

Glaize said Saturday volunteers included 45 students involved in Jefferson Davis Community College’s Upward Bound program, 22 JDCC softball players and 30 people from New Beginnings Church.

“On Sunday afternoon we had a group of senior high youth from Brewton Church of Christ who came with their youth director and are already asking when they can come back,” Glaize said. “We also had out-of-town volunteers from Evergreen and Pensacola, Fla., helping.”

Work continues this weekend, and other days as needed, Glaize said.

Work schedules for the weekend are Saturday, Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and gain on Sunday, Nov. 20 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

“Our main work this weekend will be to get the hardy plank siding up on the home,” Glaize said. “We still need volunteers to help as we work to get this home complete for the Thompson family by Christmas.”
