The six-game winning streak for the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team came to an end Saturday at Wallace State Hanceville.
The Warhawks lost 69-61 in overtime to see their season record fall to 6-4. JDCC trailed 37-28 at the half before outscoring Hanceville 29-20 in the second half to tie the game at 57.
JDCC Warhawk head coach Allen Gainer said his team got down early, but rallied to tie it and had a chance to win it in regulation.
“We got down 7-0 and 15-5 before cutting it to 27-22, then 37-28 at the half,” he said. “With 10 minutes to go we were down 17 and went on a 23-6 run over last 10 minutes to tie. We actually took the lead by one with a minute to go, but they hit a three on their next possession. We tied it with 22 seconds left and had a chance to go ahead on a free throw but missed. We then got the ball back with 1.9 seconds but missed at the buzzer. In OT they outscored us 12-4 to get the win by eight after we tied the game 57-all at end of regulation.”
Brandon Scott led the Warhawks in the loss with 22 points and was joined in double figures by Gabriel Rice with 11 and Turmonte Ragland with 10 points. Ragland had a double-double in the loss as he had 15 rebounds to go with his 10 points.
