WSN basketball falls to 6A Robertsdale Tuesday

Facing off against the 6A Golden Bears of Robertsdale Tuesday night at home, the W.S. Neal Eagle basketball teams all lost to see their records fall.
The B-team Eagles fell to Robertsdale 30-17 to see their record drop to 1-5 while the Lady Eagles fell 43-19 to the Lady Bears to see their overall record fall to 2-4 this season.
In varsity action Tuesday night, the Eagles dropped a 66-21 decision to Robertsdale to see their record fall to 2-7 this season.
Earlier in the season in their first games of the year at Robertsdale, the B-team Eagles lost 59-17 while the Lady Eagles fell 51-15. The varsity Eagles lost 82-27.
The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles and the varsity Eagles will begin play in the Escambia County basketball tournament Friday and Saturday in East Brewton.
The Eagles will play at 7 p.m. against Flomaton in girls action and at 8:30 p.m. in boys action. The tournament will continue Saturday with the losers of Friday’s games squaring off against each other and the winners playing later on in the day.
Following their play in the county tournament Friday and Saturday, W.S. Neal will play an area game against Jackson at home, Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 4:30 p.m.
The game will be the final home game and game in the month of December for the Eagles. W.S. Neal will return to action Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Jackson, which will the first game of a five-game road trip.

Robertsdale 30, WSN B-team 17
Trailing 20-12 at the half, the Bears from Robertsdale held the W.S. Neal Eagle B-team scoreless in the third quarter to add to their lead and help defeat the Eagles by 13 points, 30-17.
Robertsdale started the game on a 6-0 run over the Eagles to help lead the Eagles 10-4 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Robertsdale edged out W.S. Neal 10-8 to hold the eight-point lead at the half, 20-12.
With the 7-0 scoring advantage in the third quarter, Robertsdale increased their lead to 27-12 heading into the fourth quarter before being outscored by the Eagles 5-3 in the final quarter.
Trey Taylor led the Eagles in the loss with seven points and Quantae Barksdale added four points. Antwan Jones, Tyquis Collins and Tre Smith all had two points for the Eagles.
W.S. Neal was 1-for-4 from the free throw line in the loss while Robertsdale was 6-for-18.

Robertsdale 43, WSN Lady Eagles 19
The offensive woes for the Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal was the key to their 24-point loss to Robertsdale Tuesday night as they lost 43-19.
The Lady Eagles were held to two points each in the first two quarters to trail 20-4 at the half. Robertsdale led the Lady Eagles 8-2 in the first quarter and outscored them in the second quarter 12-2 including ending the quarter on a 10-0 run.
In the second half, Robertsdale used an 8-0 run in the third quarter to outscore the Lady Eagles 16-6 to increase their lead to 36-10 heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth, the Lady Eagles held a 9-7 advantage, but go on and lose by 24 points.
Tiana Smith led the Lady eagles with six points in the loss while Jasmine Crook added five points. Arianna Jones chipped in four points and Courtney Emmons and Khadijah Barton both had two points in the loss.
The Lady Eagles shot 11-for-21 from the free throw line in the loss while Robertsdale was 4-for-10.

Robertsdale 66, WSN varsity 21
Just like their Lady Eagles in the game before them, the varsity Eagles saw their offensive woes and the offensive and defensive of the 6A Robertsdale Bears lead to a 66-21 loss Tuesday night.
Robertsdale had runs of 6-0 and 8-0 in the first quarter along with an 13-0 run in the second quarter, a 19-0 run in the third quarter and a 7-0 run in the fourth to help get the 45-point win.
Robertsdale led 17-4 after one quarter of play and outscored W.S. Neal with an 18-4 run in the second quarter to claim a 35-8 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Golden Bears outscored the Eagles 24-8 to increase their lead to 59-16 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Robertsdale edged out the Eagles 7-5 to get the big win.
Hudson Brown led the Eagles with six points and Donovan Millican added five points. Derrick Hodges chipped in four points while Josiah Nettles, Trevor Burns and Nick Straiton all had two points each.
W.S. Neal shot no free throw in the loss while Robertsdale was 5-for-8.
