WSN boys beat JUB Thursday; teams fall Friday against Hillcrest

Playing in their fourth game in six days Thursday at J.U. Blacksher in Uriah, the W.S. Neal varsity Eagle basketball team ended a 13-game losing streak.
The varsity Eagles improved to 3-18 this season with a 61-53 win over the Bulldogs. The win was the first for the Eagles since Dec. 1 at home against J.U. Blacksher. All three wins this season have come against J.U. Blacksher.
In other games Thursday, the W.S. Neal B-team Eagles lost 39-30 to fall to 1-15 this season and extend their losing streak to 12 games.
The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles lost 51-14 to fall to 3-15 and see their losing streak increase to five games.
No B-team stats from their game against J.U. Blacksher were known.
In a home area game for the Eagles Friday against Hillcrest—their fifth game in seven days—all three Eagle teams lost.
The B-team Eagles fell to 1-16 with a 41-11 loss while the Lady Eagles fell to 3-16 overall and to 0-7 in area play with a 55-29 loss to the Jaguars of Hillcrest-Evergreen.
In varsity action Friday, the Eagles lost 79-53 to fall to 3-19 overall and 0-7 in area play.
The Eagles were scheduled to play their final home game of the season Monday against Pleasant Home before traveling to Monroe County Tuesday for their final area game. W.S. Neal will have their final regular season game Friday, Feb. 3 at Flomaton.
All games are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

JUB 51, WSN Lady Eagles 14
Thursday at J.U. Blacksher in Uriah, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle basketball team lost 51-14.
W.S. Neal was outscored 11-5 in the first quarter and 22-3 in the second to trail by 25 points at the half, 33-8. In the third quarter, the Lady Eagles were outscored 9-2 and fell to a 9-4 run to end the game to lose by 37 points.
Tiana Smith led the Lady Eagles with five points in the loss.

WSN varsity Eagles 61, JUB 53
The W.S. Neal varsity Eagles ended a 13-game losing streak Thursday with a 61-53 win.
The Eagles made 11 3-pointers in the win including five by Donovan Millican.
W.S. Neal came out hot as they led 20-7 after one quarter before falling 18-13 in the second quarter to lead 33-25 at the half.
In the third, W.S. Neal outscored the Bulldogs 18-9 to hold a 51-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Blacksher mounted a rally of 19-10 but W.S. Neal was able to get the win by eight points.
Trevor Burns led with 18 points while Millican followed with 15. Jalen Harrod added 12 points for the Eagles.

Hillcrest 41, WSN B-team 11
The W.S. Neal Eagle B-team was held to two points in the second half while Hillcrest used a 17-0 run to defeat the Eagles by 30 points, 41-11.
The Eagles were outscored 12-2 in the first quarter and 11-7 in the second to fall behind 23-9 at the half.
In the third quarter, Hillcrest held the Eagles scoreless while scoring nine points to increase their lead to 32-9 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Hillcrest ended the game on a 9-2 run to get the win.
TyShawn Davis led the Eagles with five points while Antwan Jones chipped in four. Quantae Barksdale added two points in the loss for the Eagles.

Hillcrest 55, WSN Lady Eagles 29
For the first half of their game with Hillcrest, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles were hanging in the game with the Lady Jags. Hillcrest and W.S. Neal were tied 6-6 after one quarter and Hillcrest led 15-9 at the half.
Then the tired legs from their fifth game in seven days caught up with the Lady Eagles as they were outscored 19-14 in third quarter and 21-6 in the fourth quarter to lose by 26 points, 55-29.
W.S. Neal trailed 34-23 heading into the fourth quarter before Hillcrest used a 14-0 run to put the game out of reach for the Lady Eagles.
KeKe Floyd led with 14 points and Courtney Emmons had seven. Tiana Smith finished with four points for the Lady Eagles in the loss.
W.S. Neal shot 5-for-15 from the free throw line in the loss while Hillcrest was 6-for-12.

Hillcrest 79, WSN varsity Eagles 53
Despite making seven 3-pointers and having seven scorers—with two in double digits—the W.S. Neal varsity Eagles lost by 26 points to the Hillcrest Jaguars 79-53.
Hillcrest led W.S. Neal 20-11 after one quarter of play and increased their lead to 42-29 at the half following a 22-18 advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal was outscored 19-9 as Hillcrest increased their lead to 61-38 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Hillcrest edged out the Eagles 18-15 to get the win by 26 points.
Derrick Hodges and Trevor Burns led the Eagles with 10 points each followed by Hudson Brown with nine points.
Donovan Millican and Josiah Nettles added eight points each while Jalen Harrod had six and Nick Straiton added two.
W.S. Neal shot 2-for-6 from the free throw line in the loss while Hillcrest was 3-for-17.
