An investigation by three agencies continues in a case that landed two Brewton men in jail this week in connection with suspected night hunting and a variety of other charges.
The arrest of the two suspects was made Sunday by officers with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department.
Arrested were John Woodcock, 47, of Helen Street, and James Peavy, 46, of Thomas Road in Brewton.
According to Escambia County Sheriffs officials, deputies responded to a call on Damascus Road in reference to night hunters. As deputies arrived in the area, contact was made with a vehicle matching the description given to dispatchers.
Woodcock and Peavy were both in the vehicle as officers approached. A search of the automobile lead to the discovery of two firearms and a variety of controlled substances inside the vehicle occupied by the suspects. As officers questioned the suspects, both admitted they were night hunting.
Woodcock was charged with DUI with a combined influence; unlawful possession of a controlled substance; unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia; unlawful possession of marijuana and an open container violation.
Peavy was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and an open container violation.
Both suspects were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where they were booked on the charges against them.
Woodcock was released on a $10,000 bond.
Peavy remained behind bars on a $7,500 bond as of press time Tuesday.
Agents with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agency were contacted to aid in the investigation since both suspects were convicted felons in possession of a firearm.
The case against Woodcock and Peavy remains under investigation by the Alabama Department of Game and Fish, the Alabama Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, as well as the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department.
