In a doubleheader with Pensacola State Tuesday at home, the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team came away with a split to get their first win of the season.
The Lady Warhawks rallied in game one to defeat the Lady Pirated 3-2 to improve to 1-2 this season. In the second game, JDCC lost 4-3 to take the split and fall to 1-3 overall this season.
“We fought hard today,” JDCC Lady Warhawk head coach Misti Nims said. “The pitching started off a little slow in the beginning. Had that not had happened the outcome of the game probably would be a little different. I am really proud of the way we played today compared to the way we played Saturday (against Northwest Florida). That was our first game Saturday. Pensacola has a good team and their coach is my former coach so it is always good to beat the former coach. If we make some plays here and there I think we will be tough this year. This was positive for us today.”
JDCC will play in the LBW Round Robin Tournament Saturday in Andalusia and will play in the Sun Chief Classic Sunday in Gulf Shores.
The Lady Warhawks will play in the Cardinal Spring Fling II Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18 before returning home Thursday, Feb. 23 to take on Gadsden State. Game time is set for 1 and 3 p.m. at Lady Warhawk Field on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton.

Game one: JDCC 3, PSC 2
Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, JDCC’s Amber Steadham connected for one-out double to score the game-winning runs and give JDCC their first win this season as they won 3-2.
JDCC trailed Pensacola 1-0 after the first inning before tying the game in the fourth. Pensacola would get one run in the top of the seventh to take the 2-1 lead before the Lady Warhawks plated two in the bottom of the inning.

At the plate for JDCC, Steadham led with a 1-for-4 day as she had the game-winning double and two RBIs.
