Lady Tiger basketball sees season end in area tourney Thursday

For the first time in 20 years, the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger basketball team will not be advancing past area tournament play as they lost to Bayside Academy Thursday in Grove Hill 42-39 to see their season end. With the loss, the Lady Tigers end their season with a 14-10 record.
The last time the Lady Tigers did not make it out of area play was the 1991-1992 season.
During that span, the Lady Tigers have won four state championships and have made 19 sub-regional appearances, 17, regional appearances and 12 Final Four appearances.
In the game Thursday, it was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Lady Tigers outscored Bayside Academy by 11 points, 25-16, before falling in the second half by 12, 26-14, to lose by three points.
Both teams were tied at 10 after the first quarter and in the second quarter, the Lady Tigers used a 15-6 run to hold a 25-16 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Bayside Academy came out in the second half and outscored T.R. Miller 11-4 in the quarter to cut the lead to two points, 29-27, heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, the Lady Admirals ended the game on a 15-10 run to get the win.
LaTeysia Montgomery led the Lady Tigers with 16 points and Leah Brundidge added nine. Taylor Guthrie chipped in eight points and Tempest Thompson finished with six.
Brundidge, who fouled out with two minutes left in the game, finished with 11 assists and seven rebounds in the loss. Guthrie had six rebounds in the loss.
Guthrie and Brundidge are the only seniors on the team for the Lady Tigers.
