Voters in the City of Brewton will need to pay special attention as they head out to vote in the 2012 municipal elections.
City Clerk John Angel said the Department of Justice has approved the changes requested by city officials for polling places in the city.
“Voters in Districts 3 and 4 had been voting at the old Brewton Middle School,” Angel said. “Since that facility is now closed, we had to make some changes in where voting took place for those districts.”
A request was made to the Department of Justice and Angel said officials there had 90 days to make a decision on approval of the locations for voting.
“I’m surprised at how quickly they were able to make that decision. We’ll be making formal announcements about the new polling location for those districts.”
Voters in Districts 1, 2, 3 and 4 will now be casting their ballots in the Brewton Community Center located just behind the city hall complex on Douglas Avenue, Angel said.
Voters in District 5 will continue to cast their ballots at the McMillan Museum on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College on Alco Drive.
In a special presentation, Brewton City Councilman accepted a framed copy of the newest AT&T Real Yellow Pages phone books to be distributed throughout the area.
Gigi Arbrect, state director of AT&T Alabama was on hand for the presentation.
The new phone book, scheduled for distribution next week, will feature cover art using a photo taken by Tyler Grissett, a member of the media team for the City of Brewton, Arbrecht said.
The photo of a Brewton location will be the among the first photos used for city-specific directories produced by The Real Yellow Pages organization.
