The W.S. Neal varsity Eagle baseball team continued their play in the Excel Classic Friday and Saturday and went 3-0.
The Eagles defeated Excel 6-0 Friday and defeated Flomaton 2-1 and J.U. Blacksher 17-4 Saturday to improve their overall record to 4-1.
W.S. Neal was set to play Central at home Monday before returning to action in the Escambia County Tournament Thursday at home against Atmore at 4 p.m.
In the 6-0 win over Excel, Tyler Joyner earned the win on the mound to improve his record to 2-0 this season for the Eagles. Joyner pitched four innings allowing one hit and struck out seven.
The Eagles scored three runs in the fourth and the fifth inning to get the win and got hits from Reid Johnson, Brian Settle, Keith Bradley and Logan Williamson. Johnson had a double and one RBI and Settle had one RBI. Bradley had a double and two RBIs.
Against Flomaton, Jeremy Myers got a single in the bottom of the seventh to score the game-winning run. Myers also earned the win on the mound in relief of starter Keith Bradley. Bradley went 6 1/3 innings before coming out on pitch count. Myers recorded the last two outs to get the win. Bradley struck out seven, walked one and gave up three hits while Myers had a strikeout.
Flomaton scored first with one run in the fourth while the Eagles runs came in the seventh.
Against J.U. Blacksher, freshman Eagle Miles Powell went 4-for-4 with a grand slam homerun, two triples and a double while getting six RBIs. Cam Blackman earned the win on the mound for the Eagles. Williams and Johnson both had doubles in the win.
W.S. Neal scored seven runs in the first inning to help get the win.
Monday at home, W.S. Neal improved to 5-1 with a 16-2 win over Central. The Eagles scored 11 runs in the third inning to key the win.
Settle pitched three innings and struck out seven while surrendering one hit to get the win. At the plate, Dylan Godwin was 2-for-3 with a three-run homerun and five RBIs.
Settle was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Johnson was 2-for-2 with one RBI and Damion Williams was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
In JV action Monday, W.S. Neal won 11-5 to improve to 2-1 this season.
