In their first area game of the season at home Tuesday against Thomasville, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles lost 2-0. The loss for the Lady Eagles dropped their overall record to 7-6 and their area record to 0-1.
W.S. Neal is scheduled to play at T.R. Miller Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Eagles will play at Thomasville Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
In the game Tuesday, W.S. Neal was held to only one hit in their shutout loss to Thomasville.
Anna Nelson picked up the lone hit in the fifth inning for the Lady Eagles as she finished the day 1-for-3.
W.S. Neal had seven players reach base in the loss but left all seven on base.
Thomasville led W.S. Neal 1-0 after the first inning and 2-0 after four innings to get the win. All runs were scored on passed balls.
Kaitlin Hadaway took the loss on the mound for the Lady Eagles as she went the complete game seven innings and allowed six hits, two unearned runs, walked three and struck out 10 in the loss.
“I was extremely disappointed in our effort at the plate,” W.S. Neal Lady Eagle head coach Jeff Haney said. “Thomasville is a good team, and our pitching and defense did a good job holding them to only two runs. Our hitters have to do a better job at being disciplined at the plate. Swinging at good pitches and taking a walk when it is given to you would have been enough to win. We will continue to work on our hitting and hopefully we can develop some consistency at the plate.”
