Primary election Tuesday

Alabama’s primary election will be held today with polls open across the state from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. And, just in time for decision day, some recent polling results may provide insight — or maybe a surprise or two for voters.

A survey of 600 voters who will likely vote Republican on Tuesday shows Mitt Romney has a slight advantage over other candidates in the Alabama primary election.

The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling, shows Romney with about 31 percent of the votes with New Gingrich close behind at 30 percent and Rick Santorum with 29 percent. Ron Paul received only about 8 percent of the vote according to the poll which has a four-point margin of error either way.

Because of the lack of decisions to be made in Tuesday’s primary, election officials are predicting a low voter turnout.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. across Escambia County.
