The T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball remained undefeated in a big way as they cruised to their first area game wins Thursday at Bayside Academy in Daphne.
The Lady Tigers improved to 10-0 this season and to 2-0 in area play as they defeated the Lady Admirals 16-4 in game one and 17-4 in game two.
“This was two important area wins,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “The score really doesn’t show it but Bayside was a very scrappy team and played hard. We were just able to put together some big innings and score a lot of runs. We hit the ball extremely well in game one and were able to build a big lead. In game two we started slow but the last two innings of the game we got hot with the bats again and put together two big innings again. Our last two ball games got rained out and we hadn’t played a game in over 10 days so we were excited about playing this double header. A lot of kids got some quality playing time and quality at bats.”
In game one, T.R. Miller scored 10 runs in the first inning to cruise their way to the win. T.R. Miller would add two runs in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth while holding Bayside to four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but would win the game by 12.
Taylor Guthrie was the winning pitcher in game one as she went four innings and allowed four hits, no walks and struck out three. Taylor Austin went one inning, walked three and allowed one hit.
At the plate, Audrey Hamric was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles. Leah Brundidge was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two doubles and Guthrie was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and one triple. Takeysia McFugerson was 2-for-4 and Kelsey Thompson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
In game two, T.R. Miller scored five runs each in three of the seven innings to get another double-digit win.
T.R. Miller scored one run each in the second and third innings along with five in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Bayside scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning.
Laurel Billy was the winning pitcher with seven innings pitched, walked two, struck out two, and allowed five hits.
Hamric was 3-for-4 and Brundidge was 2-for-3 with two walks, one triple and three RBIs.
Guthrie was 3-for-5 with two doubles and six RBIs and Moriah Brundidge was 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs.
