JDCC softball beats Ohio, falls to Parkland

The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team swept a home doubleheader with Ohio-Chillicothe Wednesday at home to improve to 12-22 this spring.
JDCC outscored Ohio 25-6 in the two wins as they won game one 15-4 and game two 10-2.
“We were able to finish both games in five innings,” JDCC head coach Misti Nims said. “As a team we were able to work on our at bats and it allowed some of our hitters to gain more confidence. We have one week from Saturday to finish preparing for the start of conference. Our ultimate goal is to finish first and that goal is reachable if we continue to work hard and progress.”
In game one, JDCC lead 5-4 after two innings before scoring six runs in the third inning to help get the win.
Leading 11-4 after the third inning, JDCC plated four more runs in the fourth to seal the win by 11.
JDCC pounded out 17 hits in the win including five doubles and one homerun.
Mallori Armstrong was 1-for-2 with one RBI and a double and Amber Steadham was 2-for-3 with five RBIs and a double and a homerun.
Paige Harwell had two RBI and Paige Odom was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Crysta Paulson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Dymon Coachman was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Carley Parker was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Armstrong earned the win on the mound going five innings and allowing six hits, four runs, two earned, walked one and struck out three.
In game two, JDCC pounded out 17 hits again to help get the win.
JDCC scored four runs in the first and second innings and added one run each in the third and fifth innings while holding Ohio to one run in the first and fourth.
At the plate, Steadham was 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI and Kayla Watson had one RBI. Chelsea Brown had one RBI and went 1-for-1 and Jennifer Fisher was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.
Odom was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Paulson was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Amber McMillan was 3-for-4 and Coachman was 1-for-4. Parker was 3-for-3 with one RBI and two doubles.
Jaime Sanders earned the win on the mound going five innings and allowing five hits, two runs, none earned, walked one and struck out five.
In other games, JDCC lost a doubleheader to Parkland College last week. JDCC lost game one 9-8 and game two 4-2 to drop to 10-22.
In game one, Elissa Kelly took the loss on the mound while Watson led at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double. Armstrong was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Coachman was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
In game two, Sanders took the loss on the mound. At the plate, Steadham and Parker had a double each. Steadham was 1-for-3 with the two lone RBIs.
JDCC was scheduled to play at Southern Union in Wadley Friday and then will play in the Snead State tournament Saturday. The Lady Warhawks are scheduled to play at Huntingdon Tuesday, March 27 before retuning home Saturday, March 31 to take on Bishop State at 1 and 3 p.m. The game with Bishop will be their first conference game this season.
