WSNMS baseball splits with Excel

The W.S. Neal Middle School baseball team split their first home game of the season Tuesday against Excel. The Eagles lost to the Panthers of Excel 11-6 in game one before taking game two 11-0.
The split improved the Eagles to 3-3-1 overall this season.
W.S. Neal was scheduled to play at home Thursday against Flomaton at 4 p.m. and will end their season Thursday, March 29 at home against Jay. Game time with Jay is also at 4 p.m. and will be a doubleheader.
In the first game against Excel, W.S. Neal walked nine batters in the first innings and gave up eight runs to take the loss by five, 11-6.
Excel scored eight runs in the first inning, two in the second and one in the third while the Eagles plated two in the first inning and one each in the second, third and fourth innings.
At the plate for the Eagles in game one, Malcolm Hawthorne had a triple while Dakota Graves and Bryce Booker had a single each.
Nick Glass took the loss on the mound for the Eagles.
In game two, W.S. Neal shutout the Panthers while using a seven-run second inning to help get the big win.
W.S. Neal led 1-0 after the first inning and 8-0 after two innings of play. W.S. Neal added two in the third inning and one in the fourth to get the win, 11-0.
Hawthorne had a double and two RBIs in the win at the plate and Graves had a single and two RBIs.
Glass connected for a double in the second inning and added a single in the fourth while having three RBIs. Lane Chavers had a triple and Booker had a single.
TyShawn Davis had two singles and Sam Frazier had a single. Hunter Colley had a single and one RBI in the win.
Chavers earned the win on the mound going four innings and allowing no runs, three hits, walked three and struck out eight.
