TRM baseball sweeps Excel

In their first area games of the season Friday in Excel and Saturday at home, the No. 2-ranked T.R. Miller Tiger baseball team swept the Excel Panthers to improve to 11-3 overall and to 2-0 in area play.
T.R. Miller won game one 7-3 in extra innings Friday in Excel and took game two of the series Saturday in Brewton 4-2. In the third and final game of the series, the two teams went to extra innings again with T.R. Miller winning 13-12 in nine innings.
The Tigers were set to play in Flomaton Tuesday and will be back in action Thursday at home against Washington County in an area game.

TRM 7, Excel 3, eight innings
With the game tied at 3 in extra innings, Caleb McAnally hit a grand slam homerun for the Tigers in the top of the eighth to give T.R. Miller a 7-3 win over Excel in game one of the series.
T.R. Miller led Excel 2-0 after the second inning but saw the Panthers scored three in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
T.R. Miller would get one run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 3 before McAnally’s grand slam in the eighth gave them four runs to get the win.
Conner Denton got the start on the mound and the no decision. Denton went six innings and allowed three runs, 10 hits, struck out 10 and walked none. Darby Black went the final two innings to get the win. Black allowed one hit, struck out two and hit one.
Collin Graves went 1-for-3 and Denton was 2-for-4 along with Kevin Davis. McAnally was 1-for-4 with four RBIs and Jacob Fillmore was 3-for-4 with one RBI and a homerun.
Caleb Dickey was 1-for-4 with one RBI.

TRM 4, Excel 2
Kevin Davis struck out 16 Panthers and had a two-run homerun in the third inning to help T.R. Miller to a 4-2 win over Excel and clinch the area series over the Panthers.
T.R. Miller struck for two runs in the bottom of the first inning but saw their lead cut in half when Excel scored one run in the third inning.
Davis put the Tigers ahead 4-1 in the third inning with his homerun. Excel added one in the fifth but the Tigers were able to hang on for the win.
On the mound, Davis earned the win going seven innings and allowing four hits, two runs, walked one, hit two and struck out 16.
At the plate, Davis led the Tigers going 3-for-3 with two singles and a homerun and four RBIs.
Denton had a single along with Kyle Davis, Ryan Hunt and Dickey.

TRM 13, Excel 12
Curtis Glaize got the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth to send T.R. Miller to a 13-12 win over Excel in nine innings.
Excel led 8-4 after the top of the third inning and 11-10 after six innings. With Excel on top 12-10 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, T.R. Miller scored two to force extra innings.
With the game tied at 12 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, Glaize’s RBI won the game for the Tigers.
Cody Smith was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Fillmore was 4-for-6 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Black was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs and Glaize was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs. Brett Smith was 1-for-3.
Ryan Hunt, Black, Kyle Davis and Tyler Dehoff all pitched in the win with Dehoff being the pitcher of record.
The four Tigers allowed 12 runs, 12 hits, struck out nine, walked four, five earned runs and hit four.
