The W.S. Neal Eagle baseball team kept their playoff hopes alive Thursday at home as they rallied to defeat Thomasville 4-3.
The win for W.S. Neal improved their overall record to 15-6 and to 5-2 in area play. The two teams were scheduled to meet again Friday in Thomasville with W.S. Neal needing to win at least one of the two games to clinch a spot in the class 4A state playoffs. If W.S. Neal were to lose to Thomasville in both games Friday, the Eagles would not make the playoffs.
In the game Thursday in East Brewton, Brian Settle tosses a two-hitter to help the Eagles seal the win.
Thomasville scored two runs early on the Eagles in the first innings as they benefited from four walks and a swinging bunt to take an early 2-0 lead.
The visiting Tigers added their final run of the game in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead over the Eagles.
W.S. Neal would score all four of their runs in the fifth inning to get the win by one.
In the fifth, Hunter Mullins walked with the bases loaded to score the first run and Reid Johnson singled to score two to tie the game at 3-3. Logan Williamson then had a sacrifice fly in the inning to score the eventual game-winning run.
Johnson finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and Williamson was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Jeremy Myers was 1-for-2.
On the mound, Settle went seven innings striking out 10 and allowed two hits and no earned runs.
