The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team swept a home doubleheader with Faulkner University Monday at home to get their 20th and 21st wins of the season—passing last year’s total.
JDCC won game one 7-0 and game two 8-6 to improve to 21-23 this season.
Stats from the game were not available as of press time.
“It was really good to get back on the field quickly after Saturday (two conference losses to Enterprise State),” JDCC head coach Darrell Blevins said. “In Saturday’s games, I’ll admit those were tough losses. Our guys played as hard as we can possibly play. Both games on Saturday were just outstanding games with great play from both teams. We did a fabulous job of putting pressure on Enterprise’s defense by hitting the ball
hard, running the bases hard, and through our execution of offense. However, they did just as fabulous of a job of responding to this pressure and making big plays when they had too. It was just good baseball.”
In Monday’s game, Blevins said they received another solid pitching performance from John Williams in game one to hold Faulkner University scoreless through his
five innings pitched.
“John has really been concentrating and working on his consistency form outing to outing ensuring that he is productive for us on the mound,” Blevins said. “His effort, preparation for the appearance, and his in-game performance has really improved. Thus during the last three times out on the mound, he has experienced success.”
Blevins said the same goes for Jeremy Barnes.
“He has worked his way back to the level where he was last year for us in that he is now competing at a high-intensity level and seeing success from his performances,” Blevins added. “It is good to see him back on the mound with some determination and fire. When he is focused and competing this hard, he is fun to watch. Overall, it is good to get our 20th and 21st win of the season. Our kids are excited about having surpassed last year’s win total. We will now go to work preparing for Lurleen B. Wallace on Thursday
and Saturday. We will review our earlier games with them, make certain adjustments, and get ready to get after them again.”
