The W.S. Neal Eagle baseball team ended their two game losing streak Friday at Northview as they came away with a 4-3 win.
The win for W.S. Neal improved their record to 18-9.
W.S. Neal and Northview were tied 1-1 after the first inning Friday and stayed that way until the sixth inning while W.S. Neal scored their final three runs of the game to take a 4-1 lead. Just like in the first inning, Northview answered back with runs of their own to cut the lead to 4-3 but that would be the closest they would get as W.S. Neal took the win by one.
Brian Settle pitched the complete game for the Eagles going seven innings and allowing three hits, walked four and struck out 10.
At the plate, Settle was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Hunter Mullins was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
On Thursday, without playing a game, W.S. Neal found out they won the area championship after Thomasville swept Jackson in an area game making W.S. Neal the area champion and Thomasville the area runner-up.
W.S. Neal has now been area champions three out of the last five years winning the championship in 2008, 2011 and 2012.
W.S. Neal will now host Saraland in the first round of the class 4A state playoffs Friday at home at 5 and 7 p.m. If the two teams split Friday, a game will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday if needed.
