In their final regular season game and final home game this season Thursday against the Hillcrest Lady Jaguars, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle softball team made quick work of the Lady Jaguars as they picked up a 15-0 win in three innings.
W.S. Neal, now 17-10 overall and 5-3 in area play, scored two runs in the first inning, eight in the second and five in the third to get the quick win.
The win was the fifth straight area win for W.S. Neal after starting the season 0-3.
While the game was the final home game of the season, W.S. Neal recognized their six seniors prior to the game.
Lauren Boatwright, Paige Grantham, Autumn Hinote, Anna Nelson, Jade Danley and Raley Boggs were honored with special gifts before the game.
“It is great for the seniors to go out at home with a win,” W.S. Neal head coach Jeff Haney said. “It has been a long year but we still think we have a lot of good softball left in us. This group of seniors does not want to be done. It is a big group of seniors. Six seniors is the most I have ever had. They are a special group and are the hear and soul of this team. They want to keep playing and I want them too. I think this was a good little tune up for us going into the area tournament. We have spring break next week so I think we need a little rest. We are due some rest with a lot of games played in the last few weeks. A little rest and relaxation and we will get back into it next week and get ready for the area tournament.”
In the game Thursday, Kaitlin Hadaway pitched a no hitter going three innings and striking out eight and walking one.
At the plate, Hadaway was 1-for-2 with a triple and Grantham had one RBI.
Hinote was 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs and Nelson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Kaeli Brown had one RBI while Danley was 1-for-1 with one RBI and Kena Ellison was 1-for-3. Boggs had one RBI.
