The retail market is growing in Brewton with the addition of a new home furnishings store holding a grand opening celebration this week.
The Farmers Home Furniture store, located in the Douglas Square shopping center in the former Walmart building, will hold their grand opening Thursday, May 3 at 9:30 a.m.
The grand opening will feature a ribbon cutting followed by refreshments inside the new business.
Farmers Home Furniture officials say representatives from the retailers’ corporate offices will be on hand during the grand opening event.
Mark Fontenot, manager for the local store, said the event is open to the public. The store, which boasts more than 19,000 square feet, has already been conducting business as employees get to know local customers and prepare the store for the grand opening.
“We’ve been open for business for just over a week,” Fontenot said. “We’ve had several customers in the store and everyone seems pleased with our low prices.”
Fontenot said the new store is a one-stop shopping spot for a variety of items for the home.
“We have a wide variety of furniture, appliances, televisions, mattresses and lawnmowers available,” Fontenot said.
Fontenot said financing for purchases at the store are available locally — and new accounts have a special advantage.
“We handle all of our own financing right here,” Fontenot said. “And, right now, any customer who opens a new account will save 10 percent on the sale they finance.”
“We would like to welcome everyone to our new location,” Fontenot said. “We specialize in good low prices and invite everyone to visit.”
Hours of operation for the store are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
“We are closed on Wednesdays,” Fontenot said. “It’s a unique to be closed on Wednesday, but it gives our staff a day off together.”
With six employees, Fontenot said the store is ready to serve the home furnishings needs of Brewton area residents. The store may be reached at 809-1415.
