In day one of their area tournament Tuesday in Jackson, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle softball team went 1-1 to see their record go to 18-11.
W.S. Neal lost to Thomasville 11-1 in four innings in their first game before defeating Hillcrest 15-0 in game two in five innings.
W.S. Neal is scheduled to resume play in the tournament Thursday against Monroe County at 1 p.m. If they win against Monroe County, they will play Thomasville at 3 p.m. The winner of the 3 p.m. game plays Jackson at 5 p.m. in the championship game. If Jackson loses the game for their first loss, a second game will be played at 7 p.m.
If W.S. Neal defeats Monroe County and Thomasville and reaches the championship, it will also qualify them for the South Regionals next week in Gulf Shores.
“The game against Thomasville obviously did not go as planned,” W.S. Neal Lady Eagle head coach Jeff Haney said. “It is almost impossible to win against any team when you make as many errors as we did. That is not Eagle softball and it will not happen again. I’m proud of the girls for not getting down in the second game. We kept our heads up and played the way we are capable of. We did what we had to do to give ourselves a shot at the playoffs.”

Thomasville 11, WSN 1
In game one, W.S. Neal fell to Thomasville by the 10-run rule, 11-1.
Thomasville held W.S. Neal to one run in the third inning while scoring one in the first, three in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to get the win by 10.
Kaitlin Hadaway took the loss on the mound going four innings and striking out two, walking and hitting one, allowing seven hits, nine runs and four earned runs.
Brittany Lucas went one inning on the mound and walked one, allowed two hits, two runs and one earned.
At the plate, KeKe Floyd was 2-for-3 with one run scored while Kaeli Brown was 1-for-2 and Anna Nelson was 1-for-1 with one walk.

WSN 15, Hillcrest 0
W.S. Neal stayed alive in the tournament by taking down Hillcrest 15-0.
W.S. Neal scored four runs in the first and second innings, five in the third inning and two in fourth to get the win by 15.
Hadaway earned the win going four innings and allowing no hits and no runs while striking out eight.
At the plate, Floyd was 2-for-3 with a triple, a homerun, a walk and scored three runs. Brown was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and scored three runs and Autumn Hinote was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and scored three runs.
Nelson had two walks and scored two runs.
