The roar of airplane engines and the thump of helicopter propellers will be the most prominent sounds in Riverview Saturday when the annual Brewton Spring Fly-in gets under way at the Brewton Municipal Airport.
Now in its third year, the Fly-in event has become an ancitipated show — especially for aircraft enthusiasts.
Freddie McCall, manager for the Brewton Municipal Airport, said the annual affair is a great way to remind the communty about the facility.
“This is the third year we have held this fly-in here at the airport,” McCall. “We want the community to know what we have at the airport. We offer services for private, as well as corporate airplanes that fly in and out of here every day. Our airport is a tremendous asset for the community.”
In addition to typical planes and helicopters, Saturday’s event will also include some other interesting machines, McCall said.
During the six-hour event, visitors will have the opportunity to watch remote controlled airplanes and jets, as well as Cessnas, crop dusters, Pitts, Gyros, helicopters, power parachutes, Harleys, Gold Wings, customs, choppers, classic cars and hot rods.
“If weather permits, there might even be an opportunity to get a ride in a bi-plane or a helicopter,” McCall said.
The show begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m. No admission will be charged.
The Brewton Kiwanis Club and Angel Food Concessions will have drinks, snacks and food available throughout the day.
Trophies, sponsored by the Brewton Farm Center, will be awarded to the Best in Show vehicles which are sponsored by Cruisers Unlimited. A Continental Motors factory representative will be available for questions.
The U.S. Navy will also have planes on display and they will have their crash/firetruck on display.
“Our flight instructor will be on-site to answer questions,” McCall said. “This is the same instructor who will be working with the college course that will be offered by JDCC.”
A bike show and ride will be held at the airport on the same day. The bike show trophy will be presented at 2 p.m. and a ride will follow. The ride cost is $20 per bike with proceeds to benefit Kimberly Caylor’s Mission Trip to Thailand concerning human trafficking.
