A Brewton man was taken into custody around 4 p.m. this afternoon after law enforcement officers with the Brewton Police Department, Escambia County Sheriffs Department and other assisting agencies located the suspect.

According to unofficial reports, Brewton police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle when the car sped away. The driver, who has not been identified, led officers on a chase out of Brewton, into East Brewton and continuing south on SR 41. Just before crossing the Florida State Line, the suspect turned and led officers into an area around the Dixonville and Sellersville areas, according to reports.

The suspect fled into a wooded area on foot and officers were able to locate him and take him into custody.

He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center shortly after his capture.
