Two county men were arrested Saturday after leading Escambia County Sheriffs deputies on a chase through the county.
Justin Johnson, 21, and Jerry Timothy, 21, both of Jack Springs Road in Atmore were arrested following a traffic pursuit and a foot chase.
Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle on McCullough Road when the driver sped up and tried to elude officials.
“When the officers activated their emergency lights, the driver sped up instead of stopping,” Lambert said. “The vehicle then went down a dead-end road at a high rate of speed.”
Lambert said as the suspect attempted to flee, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was taken into custody at that time, he said.
Lambert said as officers worked the scene of the first apprehension; a second suspect approached the scene on foot.
“As we were taking the second suspect into custody, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot,” Lambert said. “Our officers began a pursuit of the suspect and received assistance from the K9 team from Fountain Correctional Facility.”
Lambert said the search took a period of time with officers locating the suspect about seven miles from the original scene. He was once again taken into custody.
Johnson was charged with hindering prosecution II and obstruction of governmental operations.  He was released on $4,000 bond following his arrest.
Timothy was charged with attempting to elude, third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and escape III. He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where he remained in lieu of $10,000 bond at press time.
