For those hoping to catch a fireworks show this July 4, a contribution made to the City of East Brewton by officials with Georgia-Pacific may keep those hopes alive.

Officials with GP contributed $2,000 towards the cost of the fireworks presented each year by the City of East Brewton in celebration of July 4.

Jason Daniel, director of public relations for GP, told East Brewton councilmen Monday night that the contribution is made as a show of appreciation to the city.

“We made a contribution last year and we are happy to be able to do this again with an increase,” Daniel said. “We are happy to be able to make this contribution.”

In addition to the funds contributed to support the holiday fireworks, Daniel also said a contribution was also being made to the city’s fire department.

“We appreciate the city’s support of our mill and we wanted to help the fire department as well,” Daniel said. “We’re happy to make this $1,000 contribution.”

On hand to present the checks to the City of East Brewton and the East Brewton Fire Department were GP Purchasing Manager Steve Whitted and GP Operations Manager Darren Sims.
