In the final scheduled regular season games for the 2012 Brewton Babe Ruth season, the Astros cruised their way to a 15-3 win over the Phillies in Brewton while the Braves ended their season with a 16-7 win over the Padres in East Brewton.
Thursday’s games were scheduled as doubleheaders, but weather conditions in the area cancelled the second games of the night in both Brewton and East Brewton.
In Brewton, the Astros were ahead of the Phillies 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning when the weather came. The game was postponed until Friday at 4 p.m. as the two teams would pick up where play ended.
The Braves and Padres will not make up their second game.
As of Thursday’s games—and league standings would not change following Friday’s resumed games—the Astros claimed the league championship as they were currently 20-3 and would either finish their season 21-3 or 20-4.
The Braves finished in second place with a 13-10 record followed by the Padres in third place with a 9-14 record.
The Phillies finished in fourth place and as of Friday had a 4-19 record and would finish the season with a record of 5-19 or 4-20.

Astros 15, Phillies 3
The Astros used a six-run second inning and got a dominant pitching performance from starter Tim McDonald to propel them to a 15-3 win over the Phillies in game one Thursday in Brewton.
The two teams were scoreless after the first inning before the Astros erupted for six runs in the second inning. The Phillies would counter with one run of their own in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 6-1 heading into the third inning.
Following a scoreless third inning for both teams, the Astros took a 9-1 lead in the fourth and held a 12-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Phillies staved off a 10-run rule loss in the inning as they plated two runs to cut the lead to 12-3.
In the seventh, the Astros scored three more runs to take a 15-3 lead and get the win by 12 after holding the Phillies scoreless in the final inning.
On the mound, McDonald got the start and the win for the Astros as he went four innings and allowed no hits, one earned run, walked one, struck out none and hit two.
Mike Williams went the final three innings and allowed three hits, two earned runs, walked three, struck out two and hit one.
At the plate for the Astros, Jones Manning had four singles and one RBI and Tyler Joyner added a double and a single and two RBIs.
Williams added a single and McDonald finished with a double and a single and one RBI. Taylor Elliott had three singles while Dalton Shell had one RBI.
Dylan Etheridge had a single and two RBIs while Stokes Jennings had one RBI. Derrick Barton added a single.
For the Phillies at the plate, Baylen Parker had a double while Hunter Brittain added a double and two RBIs. Sam Frazier had a single.
On the mound, Caleb Winton took the loss going four innings and allowing five hits, nine runs, seven earned, walked four, struck out one and hit two.
Frazier went the final three innings and allowed nine hits, six runs, five earned, and walked two.

Braves 16, Padres 7
The Brewton Braves ended their season with a bang Thursday as they pounded out 20 hits and scored 16 runs in a nine-run win over the Padres.
Leading 6-3 after the fourth inning, the Braves put the game away with a six-run fifth inning to take a 12-3 lead. From there, both teams scored one run in the sixth inning and three in the seventh.
At the plate for the Braves, of the 20 hits, the Braves had six doubles and two triples.
Jo Jo Booker was 2-for-5 with one RBI and Miles Powell was 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Hunter Harp was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Malcolm Hawthorne was 4-for-5 with two triples and three RBIs.
Robin Swift was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two doubles while Christian Mancil was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Todd Mayo went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI while Austin Holmes was 1-for-2. River Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while O’Neil White was 1-for-2.
For the Padres, Jonathan Lucas was 2-for-2 and Rob Jones was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Chris Jones was 2-for-4 with a double and Hunter Colley was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Harp earned the win on the mound and was joined by Johnson and Powell. The trio allowed six hits, six runs, three earned, five walks and struck out eight.
Rob Jones took the loss on the mound for the Padres and Lane Chavers also pitched in the loss. The duo allowed 20 hits, 16 runs, 14 earned, walked three and struck out six.
