Marie Lanier Hooks

Mrs. Marie Lanier Hooks, 85, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in a Pensacola, Fla.,  hospital after a brief illness. She was a native and a life long resident of the Damascus community near Brewton. She was a member of the Hoomesville Church of Christ and a caregiver. She was preceded in death by her parents, john Allen and Minnie Lanier, two brothers, Shelby Owens and James Lanier; five sisters, Georgia Lanier, Willie Mae Whitfield, Evelyn Cotton, Elizabeth Watkins and Johnnie Bell Cook.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Hooks Phillips Richburg of Brewton; three grandchildren. Ronald Phillips of Elmore, Samuel (Dalyn) Phillips and Jonathan (Geneva) Phillips, both of Berrydale, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Logan Phillips, Ethan Phillips, Ashton Phillips and Scarlett Phillips; two-step granddaughters; eight step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with funeral services following at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Minister Clifford Dixon and Elder Jerry Brantley will officiate the services with burial to follow in Hoomesville Cemetery in the Damascus community. Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
