Brewton police were kept busy over the last week making  arrests that put three men behind bars on a variety of drug charges.
A Monday call from the Probation and Parole office in Brewton ended with one man arrested and a search of his home.
Marcus Walker Jr., of 110 Bryant Circle, was arrested after Probation and Parole Supervisor Tim Cook called the Brewton Narcotics Division regarding the suspect.
Brewton Lt. Brock Holt said illegal narcotics were found on the individual when he arrived at the Probation and Parole office for a scheduled appointment.
“The illegal narcotics were found in a cigarette pack on the suspect,” Holt said. “The pack contained a bag of marijuana and crack cocaine.”
Following the discovery of drugs at the office, agents with the Brewton Narcotics Division, along with Probation and Parole Officer Tim Cook and Lee Hall, a search of Walker’s home was conducted.
“During that search, agents located several items used in the distribution of illegal narcotics,” Holt said.
Walker was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance – cocaine; second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
In other arrests, Sgt. Andrew Casey observed a suspicious male subject behind an area known as The Flats last Thursday, Holt said.
“Sgt. Casey stated he stopped the subject and conducted an investigation,” Holt said. “During the course of that investigation, a bag of marijuana was found on the subject leading to his arrest.”
Kevin Hendrieth was arrested and charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.
Holt said a second tip on Thursday lead to the arrest of a subject suspected of conducting illegal narcotic activity.
“The tip was investigated at a residence on Lovelace Avenue,” Holt said. “Two individuals were on the front porch of the residence and while speaking with the subjects, officers located marijuana on the porch next to one of the individuals.”
John Miller Jr., of 715 Hollinger St., was arrested and charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.
Holt said the arrest of Miller was the direct result of information obtained through an established tip line.
“This case was the result of assistance from the citizens and the Brewton Police Department,” Holt said. “A confidential tip line is available for any information that citizens may have concerning illegal narcotics. The public is able to call the police department and may ask to speak to a narcotics again about a situation or leave a message.”
Each of the three suspects was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center and booked on the charges against them.
No bond information was available on Miller or Hendrieth. As of press time, no bond had been set in Walker’s case.
