After seeing a late change Tuesday night to their brackets, the Brewton 12U girls softball team saw their brackets change again.
The recently crowned state champion Brewton 12U softball team began their regional tournament today in North Carolina. The tournament is being played in Winterville in Pitt County. Brewton fell 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth inning to North Carolina’s Davidson to start the tournament 0-1.
After originally having nine teams in the tournament, the brackets were changed as a 10th team was added. Brewton—the only team from Alabama in the tournament will be joined by five teams from North Carolina—Washington, Down East, Pitt County, Davidson and Kinston/Lenoir; one team from Florida—Winter Park; and three teams from Virginia—Albemarle, Rockville and Warren County. Warren County was the new team added.
The tournament was originally set to be played with three pools of three teams but will now have two brackets of five teams. Brewton, Down East and Washington were originally in the North Division bracket while Pitt County, Winter Park and Albemarle were in the Central Division bracket. In the South Division bracket was Kinston/Lenoir, Davidson and Rockville.
Now Brewton is in the North Division bracket with Davidson, Washington, Albemarle and Down East. In the South Division bracket is Pitt County (host), Rockville, Kinston/Lenoir, Warren County and Winter Park.
The first set of brackets had Brewton set to begin play in the tournament at 3 p.m. Wednesday when they were to take on Down East. Brewton’s second game Wednesday was set to be played at 7 p.m. against Washington.
The three teams were set to meet again Thursday as Brewton was to take on Down East at 9 a.m. and Washington at 3 p.m.
Last night’s changes had Brewton beginning play Wednesday at 9 a.m. against Washington and their second game at 1 p.m. against Down East.
Brewton’s Thursdays games stayed the same—Down East at 9 a.m. and Washington at 3 p.m.
The newer updated brackets have Brewton now playing at 3 p.m. Wednesday against Down East following their earlier loss this morning.
Brewton will begin play Thursday at 11 a.m. against Washington and again at 3 p.m. against Albemarle.
A double elimination tournament will begin Friday with the top six teams advancing to the next round.
Games will begin Friday at 9 a.m. and will be played at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
