Three members of the Brewton Bulldog baseball team were recently chosen as all-stars for the league and will played in the Alabama all-state game and will now play for Team Alabama.
Blake Jernigan, Kyle Blevins and Miller Hart were recently chosen for the team and will be coached by their own coach Michael English.
“We got points during the season based on how we finished in tournaments,” English said. “We got enough points to nominate some players and I nominated Blake, Kyle and Miller and they were chosen. We went to Birmingham and played a double header and we split.”
English said the game is set up like the old East-West games.
“Miller and Blake were on the White Sox and Kyle was on the Indians,” English said. “I helped coach the Indians team. The 12 best players were chosen from that game and our three will now be on Team Alabama and will travel to Mississippi August 11-12 and play teams from other states.”
The games were all day long with a total of 12 innings being played English said.
“Between the three players, they only struck out one in 12 innings,” English said. “Miller caught and pitched two innings and was the best catcher there—especially for an 8 year-old. He also pitched two innings and struck out four. Blake played first, second and outfield and Kyle played shortstop and second. I am proud of all them. They played the game the right way. They ran on and off the field and represented Brewton well. They were never scared and went right to work.”
Jernigan finished with four hits in the game English said and Blevins was the best short stop there.
English will help coach team Alabama in the Mississippi games along with Jerry Windle of Springville.
