T.R. Miller’s Mac Campbell has recently been awarded an Alabama Sports Festival (ASF) Foundation Student Ambassador Academic Scholarship.
Students from around the state submitted applications and were chosen by their school’s selection committees. Upon serving as a Student Ambassador for Fall 2011 to Spring 2012, Campbell was chosen to receive an ASF Foundation Academic Scholarship. Since 1993, the ASF Foundation has awarded over $260,000 in academic scholarships to high school seniors attending a two or four year college or university.
“I was selected by my principal, Mrs. Bell, to participate in this organization,” Campbell said. “It is a group of high school students that serve as ambassadors for the Alabama All State Games. This is like the Olympics for the state of Alabama. I am very excited to have received a scholarship from this organization and had a lot of fun participating.”
The Alabama Sports Festival Foundation (ASF Foundation), established in 1982, developed the Student Ambassador program in 2001 to allow high school students the opportunity to become a spokesperson on behalf of the variety of programs the ASF Foundation offers to citizens of Alabama.
Examples of an ASF Foundation Student Ambassador’s duties include distributing ASF Foundation program material to the schools and businesses in their communities, speaking on television and radio and submitting press releases to their local papers. Their position also allows them to be involved in the ASF Foundation’s annual State Games.
The ASF Foundation Student Ambassador program presents a rare opportunity for high school students to further develop their skills in the areas of Personal Growth and Development, Leadership, Community Involvement, Real World Experiences, Responsibility, Confidence Building, Communications, Team Work, Networking, Public Relations, Time Management, Public Speaking, Event Planning and Marketing.
