The W.S. Neal Lady Eagle volleyball dropped their first game of the 2012 season Tuesday at Pleasant Home as they took a 3-0 loss to fall to 3-1 this season.
W.S. Neal lost in straight sets to Pleasant Home, losing set one 25-20, set two 25-14 and set three 25-17.
“The varsity team didn’t look like the same team that played last week,” W.S. Neal head coach Jeff Haney said. “We played decent in the first set, but after getting down one, we seemed to fall apart. Our ball control was not good and we didn’t get the hits that we needed to score. Overall, our effort was not what it needed to be to compete against a good Pleasant Home team. We will get it fixed and be ready for Jay on Thursday.”
In JV action Tuesday at Pleasant Home, the Lady Eagles lost 2-0 to lose their second straight game and fall to 2-2 this year.
W.S. Neal lost 25-14 and 25-11.
“The JV team played pretty well, despite the outcome,” Haney said. “Pleasant Home has a very strong JV squad and our girls played really hard. We had a couple of players really step up and play the best they have so far this season. We still have a great deal of work to do, but they are working hard to improve.”
In middle school action Tuesday, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles won 2-1.
W.S. Neal lost set one 25-22 before winning set two 25-10. In the third set tiebreaker, W.S. Neal won 15-4 to take the match.
In set one, Kaitlyn Salter led W.S. Neal with eight service points while Dinah Samuel had six and Kaitlyn Stuckey have five. Marisha Frazer had three, Mee Mee Lawson had two and Haleigh Dubose had one.
In set two, Lawson led with six, Stuckey had five, Samuel, Dubose and Salter had three while Erin Hartzel and Michaela Sanders had two each. Taylor Stewart added one.
In the third and final set, Samuel had five, Dubose had four, Salter and Lawson had two, Stuckey and Frazer had one each.
W.S. Neal is scheduled to play at Jay Thursday in a varsity game at 4 p.m. The JV and varsity teams will be back in action Monday at Bayside.
The middle school team will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 13 when they host Pleasant Home.
No service points for the varsity or JV teams was known as of press time.
