W.S. Neal to learn of any penalties today

The W.S. Neal Eagle football team will learn of any penalties against the team and players today, after an incident this past Friday night at Straughn.

Eagle head coach Doug Hoehn and principal Patty Frazier were to meet at 10 a.m. today with AHSAA officials and Straughn officials to learn of how the incident would be held.

While the Eagles rallied late in the game to turn a 29-6 deficit at one time into a 36-30 loss, the bigger news of the game was an incident late in the third quarter between players from both schools.

With 3.6 seconds left in the third quarter and the Eagles trailing 36-14, a scuffle on the field between an Eagle and a Straughn Tiger escalated to players — although not all — leaving the bench. After all was said and done, nine W.S. Neal players and five Straughn players were ejected from the game.

“The incident we had during the game was unfortunate,” Hoehn said. “It is something we are going to address as a staff and we are going to use every effort that we can to make sure it never happens again.”

The AHSAA is expected to make its decision on punishment for both schools today. See our Web site at www.brewtonstandard.com for details.
